A Dark Moon Spell

The Dark Moon is any time over the three days before the New Moon when the sky is dark. It's a time of stillness and finding comfort in the darkness.

We are called to retreat and spend time in the cave with the Crone goddess. This is a good time to pause, to rest and reflect and work on ending any cycles of lack.

We are often faced with the shadow of ourselves at the Dark Moon and weariness may call us to slow down and rest. We can use this time to withdraw and contemplate what prevents us from taking the actions needed to create and live a prosperous life. This action alone will clear our energy field and calm our nervous system.

So how can the Dark moon phase help us create a magical life of Abundance?

Try this spell.

Ending Poverty

You will need:

  • The following dried herbs: Rosemary, pine needles, copal

  • Dragon's Blood resin and Sea salt (Maldon salt)

  • Charcoal for burning

  • Mortar and pestle

  • Cauldron

  • A green garnet stone – Grossular/ or Uvarovite which is brilliant for healing the feeling of scarcity in all its aspects (finances, self-confidence, love, power and knowledge)

  • The World tarot card

  • Coloured crayons or pens

  • White parchment paper.

  • Tea light

What to Do:

At the time of the dark moon, retreat to your sacred space and make sure you will be undisturbed. No people, phones or digital devices…or any other distractions!

Gather your ingredients for the incense and mix together with your mortar and pestle. Light the charcoal in your cauldron, set aside the incense, and make yourself comfortable while holding the green garnet in your left hand.

Meeting the Ogre of Lack

Focus on your connection to the invisible realms with stillness, silence and solitude.

Close your eyes and use the breath to relax your body completely, inhaling positive energy and feeling it absorb and filter through every layer of your being. Exhale and watch this positive energy as it becomes a golden glow around you. Feel its warmth and protection holding you, bask in the light as it radiates around you and through you relaxing every muscle and cell in your body. All is good.

Diving into the Well of You

  • You are standing at the edge of a deep well, and looking down into the water you feel it pull you down…

  • As you go deeper into the well, you know that you are seeking out the place where poverty lives. Where is it?

  • As you spiral down into the darkness, you hear the faint echo of footsteps getting closer.

  • You can hear a voice calling your name. What does it sound like?

  • And now you can see the shape of a figure forming in front of you. What does it look like?

  • Allow it to come as close as you can handle…

  • Now ask the 'being,' 'What is your purpose?' Be patient and listen for the answer…

  • Now ask it, 'What do you want?' and 'Why do you stay here?'

  • When you have received your answers, tell the ogre you no longer need him. Thank it for coming and bid him farewell.

  • See the figure becoming smaller and hear the fading footsteps as it walks away.

  • Begin to spiral back up through the depths of the well, feeling the water carrying you… and the light from above drawing you back to the top.

  • Take some deep breaths and feel your feet on the ground and the good earth beneath you.

  • Now take the paper and the crayons/pens and draw the image of what you saw in the well. Remember what it said to you and draw anything you can remember, whatever comes to mind; words or images…it doesn't matter.

  • How do you feel about it? Draw that. The idea is to get it out and onto the paper.

  • When you have finished, sprinkle the incense into the centre of the paper and add the salt.

  • Twist the bundle until it's closed and place it on top of the burning (white) charcoal.

  • Watch the herbs smoulder and see all the poverty and lack in your life leaving…disappearing… Know that you have cut off the supply of this energy and it has gone.

  • How does that feel? Explore and enjoy the feeling.

  • Burn the remains of the paper and bury the ashes in the earth.

  • Carry the green garnet or place it on your altar for a lunar cycle.

The magic is done.
